Jazz is offered for dancers age 6 and older at all levels. Classes range from 30 minutes for beginners to 90 minutes for advanced dancers.
Beginning Jazz/Jazz I is for students 6 to 10 with zero to one years of jazz experience
Jazz II/III is offered for students who have taken at least two years of jazz
Jazz IV is for students with three to four years of jazz experience - students in this level will concentrate on strength, stretching and jazz technique
Intermediate Jazz I/II is for students who have completed Jazz IV
Intermediate Jazz II/III is for students who have completed Intermediate Jazz I/II
Placement in advanced level classes is determined by instructor and is based on the ability to execute jazz technique, commitment to attendance and summer class participation:
Advanced Jazz I/II is for students who have successful completed Intermediate Jazz II/III and is recommended for students seventh grade and older - students may continue in this class for several years
Advanced Jazz III is for dancers who have successfully completed eight to 10 years of jazz or ballet training - entry into this level is by the recommendation of their previous jazz instructor
Advanced Jazz IIV is for the most advanced, serious dancer - entry into this level is by instructor invitation only and students are required to take summer classes
Appropriate dance attire must be worn to classes! In order for the teacher to make necessary corrections concerning body alignment, no baggy shirts or shorts are allowed. Long hair should be tied up and away from the face. Proper dance attire for jazz classes includes:
Leather jazz shoes (advanced students may need both beige and black jazz shoes)
Any color leotard or form fitting tops
Form fitting shorts or pants - NO baggy clothing
The shoes listed here will be required for the dance recital. PLEASE LABEL THE INSIDE OF YOUR DANCE SHOES.
