The Zumbrota Dance Studio is committed to providing a safe and healthy place for all our instructors and dancers. To ensure we have as safe and healthy studio, we have developed the following COVID-19 Preparedness Plan in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal is to mitigate the potential for transmission of COVID-19 in our community and that requires full cooperation among our instructors, dancers and parents. Only through this cooperative effort can we establish and maintain the safety and health of our dancers and instructors and get back to doing what we love: dancing.
Our COVID-19 Preparedness Plan follows Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidelines and addresses:
health screenings
hygiene and respiratory etiquette
social distancing guidelines
cleaning, disinfecting and ventilation
HEALTH SCREENING: Prior to arriving at ZDS, please ask your dancer the following questions:
Do you have a fever?
Do you have shortness of breath?
Do you have a cough?
Do you have the chills?
Have you felt sick in the two weeks prior to today?
Have you been in contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 (if yes, dancers cannot attend classes in-person for at least two weeks after their last contact with this person)?
Most of all, dancers and instructors are asked to stay home if they are feeling ill. Dancers and instructors will have their temperature taken with a no touch thermometer upon entering the building. Those with a fever of 100.4F or higher are not allowed to attend class in-person and will be sent home.
HAND WASHING: Dancers will be asked to wash their hands for 20 seconds upon entering the building or thoroughly cover their hands with hand sanitizer. Instructors are required to frequently wash their hands or use the available hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer of greater than 70% alcohol will be available at the entrance and exit of the building and in each studio. RESPIRATORY ETIQUETTE/MASKS: Due to the statewide mandate, masks must be worn by everyone (3-5 year olds are exempt) when entering the building, walking through the hallways and using the restrooms.Dancers are encouraged to wear masks during as much of their classes as possible. Masks will also be worn by instructors and assistants when at all possible. Instructors, assistants and dancers are asked to cover their mouth and nose with their sleeve or a tissue when coughing or sneezing and to avoid touching their face, in particular their mouth, nose and eyes, with their hands. They should dispose of tissues in provided trash cans and wash or sanitize their hands immediately afterward. There are several boxes of tissues available as well as trash cans.
SOCIAL DISTANCING: Because our waiting room is very small, we are asking parents to remain outside of the studio or in their vehicle. Parents of younger dancers may walk children to the door where a class assistant and/or instructor will be there to greet them, help them wash their hands, put their shoes on and find their dance room. Assistants and/or instructors will also help students collect their things and leave after classes. During classes, there will be markings in the hallways and on the floors in each studio to help dancers socially distance and remain six feet or more apart.
CLEANING, DISINFECTING AND VENTILATION: Regular housekeeping practices and disinfecting has taken place long before the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to be completed. Appropriate and effective cleaning and disinfectant supplies are readily available for use. Door handles, floors and any equipment used will be wiped down after each class is dismissed. The maximum amount of fresh air is being brought into the building and the ventilation systems are being properly used and maintained.
Dance attire
Appropriate dance attire, including leotards and tights for ballet, must be worn to classes, in order for the teacher to make necessary corrections concerning body alignment. Long hair should be tied up and away from the face. See specific class descriptions here for attire requirements.
Observation
Class observation will only be allowed the following dates. No exceptions will be allowed.
September 21-24, 2020 by ZOOM
November 16-19, 2020
February 22-25, 2021
In order for observation days to be productive lessons for your child, we ask that those observing do not talk or cause other distractions. Your child looks forward to you observing their class and we want it to be a good experience for everyone.
Make up classes
Due to Studio Closings We cannot provide make-up lessons for classes missed due to inclement weather. Studio closings due to inclement weather will be posted on the website and Facebook page.
Attendance Policy for Students in Grades 7-12 We realize students in grades 7-12 are involved in many extracurricular activities and we want them to succeed in all aspects of their lives. Therefore, we are establishing the following attendance policy is in place to keep their dance training on track, even with missed classes. Students are asked to look ahead and count how many dance classes they will miss due extracurricular activities. They will then be required to make up those classes by coming to an alternative class that will fit into their schedule. The make-up classes, at no additional charge, will need to be completed in Sessions I-II. Students who miss more than two classes (excused or unexcused) in Session III and do not make them up earlier in the year will be asked to attend and pay for a private lesson with their instructor to participate in the recital. Please contact Robyn if you have any questions about the policy. Students must attend make-up classes or complete private lessons in order to participate in the recital.
